In The Midst of Community Service, Hibo Got Hired
Due to my dual responsibilities as a young lady taking care of her schoolwork and family chorus, I made a lot of effort into both my studies and job search, despite many obstacles.
My grandmother, whom I considered as my second mother because I was caring for her at that time, served as my counselor. She would often tell me, “You only have Allah Almighty on your side,” when she saw me reflecting on the trying times I was going through.
In order to write my CV for my job search, I used to cut out a piece of paper from my notebook. The employees at the various human resources departments would be shocked to see the little paper I wrote with a pen and made into my CV because I didn’t have a laptop to create a well-written one. Nevertheless, doing this meant a lot to me because it was the only way I could.
I shared my resume with every office in Metro Hargeisa, and in some cases, I was subjected to insults, discouragement, and badmouthing. Despite all of this, I remained steadfast in my resolve to overcome these setbacks and believed that eventually I would succeed in my job search.
While I was teaching one of the Mom students in the market at midday, in the blazing sun, Abdirashid of the Dahabshiil Cooperation approached me. He welcomed me into his office after rewarding the Mom student something. When he asked me what I felt is the most important thing going on in my life right now, I told him that I am actively looking for a job and didn’t ask anything else.
In exchange for hiring me, Abdirashid didn’t request a reference from me or a certificate; instead, he simply noted my dedication to performing civic duty and assured me that I would have the opportunity to teach moms and continue serving the community in the future. I started working at Dahabshiil on the second day, which will allow me to finish the coursework I was unable to complete.
Thank you, Chairman Abdirashid. I will provide my knowledge to the Dahabshiil company and carry out the community duties you have inspired me to do.
