Somaliland Alerts World of Its Concerns on Security in the Red Sea

The international community has been urged by the government of Somaliland to act swiftly to address the dangerous situation that pirates have brought about in the Red Sea maritime route.

In order to discuss the rising tension in the Red Sea maritime gateway, particularly the piracy resurgence, the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has convened a crucial conference with the representatives of other nations in Somaliland and the organizations they collaborate with.

“It directly affects Somaliland’s trade, preventing the flow of goods and hindering our economic development.” Up to 17,000 ships and 12% of global trade go through the Red Sea consistently,” the Somaliland foreign minister – Essa Kayd Mohamud said so.

“Each ship that goes through the Suez Canal heading to or coming from the Indian Ocean utilizes this route, so you can imagine how serious the situation is.” Minister Kayd continued to say in his speech.
