Besides Improving Water Accessibility, Pharo Somaliland Also Assesses Water Safety & Quality
Today is WorldWaterDay, a United Nations observation day to highlight the importance of fresh water and the sustainable management of it.
At Pharo Foundation, ensuring access to safe and affordable water is one of their top priorities as it is one of their defining missions. Whilst it has done a lot in terms of improving access and affordability, Pharo wants to also ensure all water sources are regularly tested to ensure they are safe. Today, they’re shedding light on how it assesses the quality of water in the communities they serve. In Somaliland, their research and evaluation team and water quality specialists from the government worked together to sample numerous water sources commonly used, including rivers, shallow wells, earth dams, boreholes, springs, unprotected wells as well as dams. They tested one of their dams, as well as 15 other water sources in the area. They methodically looked at where communities used to access water before their water projects came into existence to ensure commonly used sources were sampled. Adhering to WHO guidelines, their testing process maintains strict standards for accuracy and reliability as seen in the video.
Pharo will continue methodical testing in the future and introduce necessary interventions to improve quality along the way. It is proud to be an organisation that is methodical in these checks and at the same time values collaboration from the government.
