In Somaliland’s Quest for Recognition, President Bihi is the Choice
Less than three weeks to go until election day, President Muse Bihi has a good chance to be re-elected. I like President Muse Bihi because he is an unapologetic nationalist Somalilander who puts Somaliland interest first. That alone makes him an exemplary president of Somaliland Republic.
I am not writing this piece as a member of any party, on behalf of a Sub-clan, or to endorse any party platform. I am writing this piece to share the voters why I believe it is vital this November to re-elect President Muse Bihi for five more years.
In this presidential election cycle, the President Bihi faces many challenges, including the insurrection in the East Sool region, higher inflation, the Pro-Somalia Wadani Party Orchestrated civil unrest, massive unemployment, and questions about his handling of the attack on Law enforcement at Gacan Libaax Mountains in August 2023. Despite those challenges, President Bihi will win re-election in November.
But a presidential nominee who is aiding and abetting those who hate us, plotting to harm Somaliland, and who is also anti-law enforcement and provided material support hardcore criminals who killed our finest policemen is a hopeless candidate who ought not only be allowed to be a nominee of a party let alone sit the executive office of Somaliland Republic.
The Wadani party nominee Cirro who consumed with whining, complaining, trashing and apologizing about Somaliland: “the 2017 presidential election was rigged, Somaliland is not inclusive enough, we’re not included in this, we are not at table in that, and President Bihi is a dictator….” is not capable defeating President Muse Bihi.
The only reason some people favor Cirro is that they don’t want Bihi to be re-elected. Nobody supports Cirro because they think he would be a good president; they favor Cirro because they simply oppose President Muse Bihi.
Starting with the 2017 presidential win, President Muse Bihi vowed to crack down the massive corruption Hersi Hassan and Mohamoud Hashi, the two key cabinet Ministers who were running the Silanyo Administration, presided over. President Bihi acted a good fiduciary for the public money. He fights corruption to eliminate waste and fraud on government contracts.
He curbed the power of the un-elected Clan elders and rogue merchants who are undermining governance and the justice system. He cut the funds that they used to receive as racketeering to keep the peace and reconcile communities. For instance, Bihi administration alone spent over $8 million on peace and reconciliation on the communal violence in Ceel-Afwen—the stronghold of the warlord Buurmadow! The money we could have used to train 2-3 brigades of the army and Special police (Swat Team) to keep the peace and order.
President Muse Bihi fought hard against militant Ictisaam clerics who are harming our peace and stability. He pursued a policy of empowering local citizens by providing them with direct development projects on water, health and energy.
On foreign policy, he is forging a close economic ties with Ethiopia Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and others and attracting foreign investment such as the DP World Logistics and Trafigura Energy, to make Somaliland the Logistic gateway to the Horn of Africa.
He is rebuilding our Defenses forces after the loss of Gooje-Cadde Battle and he is working hard to bring home our POWs. He initiated Aviation school to train our future pilots to become the base for a fledgling Somaliland Airforce.
Most of the Somalilanders have welcomed his initiatives with open heart except Somaliland’s enemy and the leadership of pro-Somalia Wadani party.
He fought hard against the UN meddling in Somaliland by promoting the fiction that JSL is a part the failed of Somalia. He succeeded in dismantling the UN and the NGOs and their protectors to run a parallel government to undermine our governance and security.
He promotes what I call Somaliland First policy on world stage, a policy that he outlined during his visit to the United States at the Heritage Foundation in March 2022. That is why the leader of the Failed state of Somalia is now desperately seeking military ties with Egypt, Eritrea and Djibouti dictators.
The November 2024 election is a consequential one. It’s a choice between a leader who is fighting for Somaliland people and those who are waving the white flag of surrender in order Somaliland Republic to become a colony for the failed state of Somalia. It’s a stark contrast.
Because a Pro–Somalia Wadani party or a sub-clan still cannot accept the Somaliland people’s choice in 2017, is not a reason to deny President Bihi re-election.
Bihi’s Somaliland first policy is working, and we need him to be re-elected to finish the mission he started to bring diplomatic recognition for JSL and accomplish rebuilding our Defense Forces including the Air Force
Because the Pro-Somalia Wadani party nominee Cirro is a loser who hates Somaliland and cannot be trusted to lead the country. That is why I’m supporting the re-election of President Muse Bihi for five more years.
