Sool Insurgency Critically Crippled Beyond Recovery
The Sool insurgency, aided by Al-Shabaab terrorists and forces from the Somali regional government of Puntland, launched a desperate offensive push from multiple directions yesterday near Las Anod, in the Sool region and, as usual and expected, the Somaliland military forces were able to repel them with major blows.
The military bases for Somaliland forces are located in the city of Las Anod and its surrounds. TOn Tuesday, the Huwan Militia and its terrorist groups carried suicidal attacks on Somaliland military installations, where they sustained devastating defeats and fatalities, including deaths, injuries, burned vehicles, and detainees taken from them.
The early-morning suicidal attack in the eastern Las Anod city, which was carried out by Puntland regional government forces posing as local Sool insurgents, resulted in significant casualties when the Somaliland army fiercely engaged with them while defending positions in Maraaga, Buurta Sayidka, Oodagoye, Buurta Hodan, Gambadha, and Jajaka Qoriga.
Xarunta Agoomaha, Kaalina Ina Jabutawi, Baliga Calacal, and Daray Madobe were among the positions of Somaliland forces that were attacked by the Huwan insurgency. According to reports, the allied militia groups suffered significant losses in this encounter mischaracterized as the “Liberation of Lasa Anod” but was actually a suicidal mission into hell.
Although there hasn’t been a precise count of losses so far, Huwan militia has suffered a significant number of fatalities and scores of severe injuries as a result of this misguided and blind-folded attack.
According to reports coming from the front lines of the Somaliland army positions, the combat with Huwan militia went on until nightfall, 4 bases of theirs were taken, and 5 armored technical trucks were bunt.
In yesterday’s combat, which lasted more than 10 straight hours, it was said to have inflicted on Huwan Militia the most destruction and casualties since the start of the Las Anod conflict.
The positions taken over by the Somaliland forces yesterday are located inside the Las Anod, especially in the West and East. According to reports, Somaliland military has taken control of all the major locations where the Huwan Militia once had control, with the exception of the southern part of the city, which is the main route their support is funneled through.
A press release from the Somaliland Ministry of Defense on Tuesday read as follows:
“Last night and yesterday morning, the National Army faced organized attacks by Puntland groups, terrorists and militias. It is true that these groups have united to destabilize Somaliland and the region as a whole. We strongly condemn these attacks, and we strongly support the bravery of Somaliland security forces, which is strongly defending our borders. The Ministry of Defense calls on the international community to monitor the hostile actions that pose a great threat to the stability of the region. We stand for the protection of our sovereignty and the stability of our people”.
The Huwan Militia, which has teamed up to sabotage peace and stability in Somaliland, is at war with Somaliland’s armed forces, that are actively engaged in defending the nation’s border and sovereignty at all costs.
The Huwan Militia’s setback yesterday demonstrates that they are unable to continue their insurgency with Somaliland forces for very long, compelling them to accept Somaliland’s long-standing demand that they sit down at the negotiation table for peace.
