Vague Figure among the Crowd Contesting for Kulmiye Party’s First Deputy Chairmanship

The number of Kulmiye politicians who aspire to the position of the first Deputy Chairman of the Party is growing. Younger breed of politicians are stepping up to the plate to present their political ambitions as to the leadership of the Kulmiye Party, which will soon hold the Central Committee Convention.

The Convention of the Central Committee of Kulmiye Party is scheduled to open in Burao on the 20th of August, 2023 and it is expected that the top leadership positions of the Kulmiye Party will be elected at the meeting.

The position of the first Deputy Chairman of the Kulmiye Party is currently held by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Somaliland – Mohamed Kahin Ahmed – who is expected to take over the reign of the Chairmanship of the Kulmiye Party from the President of Somaliland HE Muse Bihi Abdi.

The position of first Deputy Chairmanship for Kulmiye Party is currently contested by several politicians hailing from the Gabiley region.

Faisal Omar Madar (Faisal Qumuj), one of the young cadres of the Kulmiye Party, announced that he is standing and running for the position of the 1st Deputy Chairman of the Kulmiye Party.

Such bold move with respect to youth politicians in demanding the handover of political establishments leadership in Somaliland to younger generations from aging crews is fundamental for cultivating new viewpoints, energy, and innovation in governance of the country. It can help address longstanding issues, advance inclusivity, and guarantee a more delegate initiative. It flags a smooth change process with mentorship and proper training that will be gainful for the country

Besides Faisal Qumuj, other figures vying for the first deputy chairman position include Abdiaziz Mohamed Samaale and Mohamed Abdillahi Omer – who both held ministerial positions at the time of Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo administration.

Samaale has been a member of the Kulmiye Party and was elected to the Somaliland House of Representatives in 2005. He served as the minister of Planning and Development from 2006 to 2010, and later became the minister of Finance of Somaliland from 2010 to 2012. Samaale has never left Somaliland, and he has never been away from politics establishment in Somaliland.

Mohamed Abdillahi Omer is a former foreign minister of Somaliland. He landed on this position on July 28, 2010 after former president Ahmed Mahamoud Silanyo chose him, and continued serving in this cabinet post until June 25, 2013 when he replaced by Mohamed Bihi Yonis. He also holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Oxford. Prior to his appointment as Foreign Minister, he served as Somaliland’s Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Thus far, the dubious figure competing for this post is Mohamed Abdillahi Omer, who not just has been missing from Somaliland politics for quite a while, yet ton of questions shroud his devotion to the Somaliland case.

For a great time frame now, he invested a lot of energy visiting between Adis Ababa and Mogadishu, Somalia, a spot that doesn’t have a decent standing among the Somaliland nation since they firmly hold that it is a city where continually the dangers towards Somaliland are plotted, and furthermore believe it to be the main obstruction with regards to the Somaliland’s journey for recognition.

At the point when a politician who has held high cabinet portfolios for Somaliland government easily gets comfortable a spot that has such low and unfavorable perception among the Somaliland public, clearly something has changed in his outlook on the independence of Somaliland, as he favored the way of life and extremely rewarding pay presented by the contract assignment over the sovereignty of Somaliland.

Is it impossible to insulate self from hostile political environment around you?

A hostile political environment can be defined as one in which there is a great deal of disagreement and conflict about political issues. This type of climate leads to a feeling of anxiety, stress, and even fear for those who are caught up in it. Limiting your exposure to political news and discussions is next to impossible, and you would be always overwhelmed by the political climate in the absence of support system that understands your perspectives. Even if you try to avoid consuming the local narratives the political climate can still seep into your life through your interactions.

Therefore, it is not impossible to insulate yourself from a hostile political environment, and lead a very smooth life without compromising your core beliefs.

On a different note, looking back his political track records, he is one of the architects of now stalled Somaliland-Somalia dialogue back in 2012 along Hirsi Hagi Hassan – the current chairman of Wadani party – that degraded and dented the Somaliland sovereignty.
