President Bihi Bids Farewell to Taiwan Scholarship Recipients

The President of Somaliland Republic – HE Muse Bihi Abdi – today held a farewell meeting with 33 (thirty three) students who have won the scholarships that Taiwan availed to Somaliland.

The farewell meeting was held at the presidential palace and was attended by members of the cabinet, the head of the Somaliland Higher Education Commission, the ambassadors of Somaliland and Taiwan to Taipei and Hargeisa respectively, the scholarship winners and their parents. There were speeches of encouragement to the students and parents as well as paying gratitude to Taiwan, the donor country.

Somaliland students who received Taiwan Scholarships

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Somaliland – Ambassador Allen Chenhwa Lou – spoke at length about the relationship between Somaliland and Taiwan and the value of the scholarships offered to these students, and urged them to take advantage of this golden opportunity.

Ahmed Saeed Egeh – who spoke on behalf of the parents of the scholarship recipients – expressed his gratitude for the scholarships and urged the students to fulfill their responsibilities by fully taking advantage of this free education.

Abdirahman Hussein Muse – speaking on behalf of the scholarship recipients – welcomed the opportunity and promised that all students are committed to making this opportunity a success.

Ministers – for Education and Science and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Diriye (Toorno) and Dr. Issa Keyd Mohamud respectively encouraged the departing students to become ambassadors representing their nation Somaliland, and to come back with a valuable education contributing to the development of the country.

The President of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi, concluded the farewell meeting by congratulating the scholarship winners and urging them to be resilient to the challenges they will face in their destination country.
