Reports of COVID-19 infection in Kenya and Ethiopia have prompted the Somaliland government to take further measures to strengthen public health safety.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland – Hon. Muse Bihi Abdi – has issued a presidential decree referenced as JSL/XM/G/083-488 /032020 for establishing the National Preparedness and Prevention Committee on Corona-virus.
According to the decree, the membership of this committee shall be composed of the ministers of the Health Development Ministry; Interior Ministry; Information, Awareness, and Culture Ministry; Religion and Endowment Ministry; and Education and Science Ministry
The president pointed out in his decree that the nation has already taken national steps preventing the outbreak of the epidemic covid-19, that rapidly spreading in the world, by strongly mobilized and put on alert the staff of the Ministry of Health who launched investigations and inspections at all airports, seaports and ports of entries. However, more efforts, preparations and prevention are required.
The decree further continue to state that collaboration and coordination of the National Preparedness & Prevention Committee on Corona-virus will be led by the Minister of Health, and they are expected to contribute serious and concrete measures as to the preparedness, prevention, and mitigation of coronavirus disease of 2019.
