Somaliland People Must Put Aside Differences to Engage with G21’s Plot
In 2017, a political shift occurred in the Horn of Africa that set off a chain of events with repercussions felt far and wide. The election of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, popularly known as Farmaajo, as the president of Somalia, was the match that lit the fuse.
Unknown to many, behind the scenes in Villa Somalia, Farmaajo and the elites from the Darood clan were sketching a secret war against the neighboring region of Somaliland. The quiet and peaceful shores of Somaliland were about to be rocked by a wave of destabilization and disinformation.
Under Farmaajo’s administration, an organization named G21 was created. This group, composed exclusively of members from the Darood tribe, was tasked with a three-tiered strategy to destabilize Somaliland.
Firstly, it targeted the Somaliland’s diaspora around the globe, sowing seeds of discord among the community. Secondly, it infiltrated the political parties in Somaliland, corrupting the democratic processes from within. Lastly, it weaponized the media, spreading falsehoods and propaganda to incite clan divisions and undermine the unity of Somaliland.
Fahad Yassin, appointed as Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), led this assault, recruiting journalists from Somaliland to disseminate fake news. His mission was to destroy Somaliland’s unity and stability.
But the onslaught didn’t stop there. Farmaajo also cut off international aid funds to Somaliland. In a shocking turn of events, he turned a blind eye to Al-Shabaab terrorists’ tax collection in Mogadishu in exchange for their withdrawal from the capital.
As we delve deeper, we find that a man named Garaad Ali Garaad Jama, leading a group from the Sool region, is now stationed in Ethiopia near the west of Somaliland, ready to strike in the Awdal Region. This strategy harks back to the Lasanod war, where Somalis denied any responsibility and claimed that the local people were fighting. However, the death of senior officers from the Puntland army and Somalia’s Special Forces later unveiled the truth.

Now, we face an ominous question – will history repeat itself in the west of Somaliland, the Awdal Region? As we unravel this tangled web of conspiracy, one thing becomes clear – the stakes for Somaliland’s peace and sovereignty are higher than ever.
Politicians, clan elders, civil society, and the diaspora must put aside their differences to raise awareness of G21’s destabilization campaign. They must spread messages of unity, solidarity, and warn youth against radicalization. By fostering unity and resolve among Somalilanders, securing borders, and providing opportunities for youth, Somaliland can overcome the challenge posed by G21 and their allies. With vigilance and determination, Somaliland can defend its peace, stability, and future prosperity from those who wish it harm.
The time for action is now, before this threat grows too great. Somaliland’s leaders and citizens must come together in common purpose to safeguard their nation. Stay tuned as we continue to bring you more insights into this unfolding narrative. We stand with Somaliland, and we stand for peace.
