The Somaliland Parliament’s Speaker Election is Scheduled


The sixth session of the House of Representatives, scheduled to officially open tomorrow Sunday July 23, 2023, is supposed to choose the Speaker of the House of Representatives, which was emptied by Abdirisaq Khalif Ahmed who held that post for almost two years. He surrendered as of late subsequent to joining the uprising in Las Anod, that pursuing a unionist agenda and fighting with Somaliland forces for cessation.

The former chairman of the Somaliland House of Representatives, Abdirisaaq Khalif, has run on the platform of the opposition Waddani party, at the time of campaigning for the parliamentary seat from his Sool constituency.

The presiding officer of the Somaliland parliament is contested by two MPs: Rep. Faratoon elected from Sool district in Eastern Somaliland and Rep. Ali Hamud Jibril elected from Awdal district in the Western Somaliland.

There is a contentious race between these two hopefuls to win the votes of the majority of members in the parliament.

The contenders for the position of the Speaker of the House has turned in to the office of the Secretary of the House their biographical information, evidences of their education credentials, and the record of their work and experience history.

 

Tomorrow, Ali Hamud Jibril, the third Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives, will make the announcement in front of the House floor that he resigns from his post as Deputy Chairman to pave the way for his contention for the speakership position.. His campaign is being blessed and pushed by the opposition parties while MP Faratoon has the backing of both the government and quite a number of the opposition members.

Ali Hamoud Jibril is a member of the UCID opposition party, while Yassin Mohamud Xiir run on the ruling Kulmiye party platform at the time of his election , however presently he is a member of the KAAH political association where he as of late joined

 

 

n this afternoon, Mohamed Khadar Dahir, who is a member of the opposition party UCID that represents the Marodijeh district, joined the race for the House Speakership when he submitted the required documents needed for vying that post to the Secretary of the House.
