First Batch to Graduate from the National Teachers Training College

The President of the Somaliland Republic – HE Muse Bihi Abdi – attended the graduation ceremony of 400 (four hundred) teachers, the first batch of graduates from the National Teachers Training College, located on the northern outskirts of the capital city Hargeisa.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Science, faculty and staff of the National Teachers Training College, and a host of other dignitaries, delivering speeches praising the new teachers and underlining the importance. these teachers belong to the nation.

The Director General of the Ministry of Education and Science – Mr. Ahmed Abokor – who spoke first highlighted the importance of the National Teachers Training College and the efforts made by the ministry in producing such quality teachers.

Ms. Samiya Mohamud Ahmed of Sool Region

Ms. Samiya Mohamud Ahmed of Sool Region – speaking on behalf of the teachers who graduated today – pointed out the efforts and hard work they have shown during the course of the training and promised that the lessons learned will be utilized in the classrooms once teachers return to their different districts.

The dean of the National Teachers Training College – Mr. Ahmed Omar Qule – also spoke in depth about the various stages the college has gone through and expressed his confidence in the quality of teachers.

The Minister of Education and Science – Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Diriye – on his part praised the teachers graduating and emphasized the importance of teaching profession and their timeless status in the community. The minister explained the purpose behind their training and the type of teacher the ministry wants to graduate from this college:

“This training will be part of the licensing of the teaching profession by the end of 2022, and no teacher would be allowed to teach in Somaliland without first having teaching credentials and mastering the standard teaching methodology”.

After congratulating, President Muse Bihi Abdi – who also addressed the event – remarked that this success symbolizes the attainment of a target and a goal of this nation regarding the production of quality educators. The President highlighted the importance of the education community to the nation and how they are the backbone of the country’s development by saying: “We recognize that the education community is the building block of our country and our future, and would not hold back any support from them unless it is beyond our capability”.

Finally, the president presented certificates to teachers who graduated from the National Teachers Training College, while laid the foundation stone for new buildings that would house dormitories for college trainees…
