Senator Risch’s Amendment Calls for Security & Defense Partnership with Somaliland

U.S. Senator James Risch (R-Idaho)- a ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee- in last month introduced an amendment to the fiscal 2022 (FY2022) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) calling for the establishment of a security and defense partnership between the United States and Somaliland 

He suggested to congressional committees, including the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate, the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives; and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives that a FEASIBILITY STUDY ON SECURITY AND DEFENSE PARTNERSHIP WITH SOMALILAND be conducted.

As China’s political and economic engagements continue to rapidly grow in this important region, the United States has realized that it cannot miss out on this valuable maritime corridor and must deal with Somaliland

NDAA aims: To authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2022 for military 
activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction, and
